John (he/him/his) is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor at Matone Counseling Asheville. He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from South Eastern University in Lakeland, Florida and his Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Webster University in Myrtle Beach, S.C. John has been working in mental health for more than 10 years and has worked in a variety of settings.

John has experience working with substance use disorders, anxiety and depression. He is also comfortable with spiritual conflicts and trauma in which he is EMDR trained. EMDR is an evidenced based treatment for treating  trauma and challenging persistent core beliefs. John is an LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapist as well as being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community. John utilizes psychodynamic ,  motivational Interviewing, and somatic modalities.

John has specific training in providing needed documentation for gender affirming medical treatments and is pursuing certification with WPATH. John also enjoys supporting LGBTQIA+clients around religious conflicts.

Clients that John may not be a good fit for:

• Individuals under the age of 18
• Individuals seeing therapy because of pressure from others
• Individuals looking for a “quick fix”

Clients that John typically is a great fit with:

• Clients who are in established recovery from substance use issues, alcohol use challenges and are ready to explore what led to the addiction.
• Clients who know therapy is a process and are committed to doing the work and knowing that therapy typically takes time.
• Clients with existential concerns wanting to explore spirituality and the meaning of life.
