Kate has been providing mental health and substance use disorder services in the Charlotte area since 2013.  She earned a Master’s of Art Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Graduate Certificate in Addictions Counseling at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and earned a Bachelor’s of Music in Music Therapy at Queens University of Charlotte.  She is currently a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS), Music Therapist – Board Certified (MT-BC), and a Certified Clinical Supervisor – Intern (CCS-I).

Kate is a native of the Charlotte area, and has been honored to work in a variety of facilities and agencies providing different levels of care: including medical detoxification for substance use, inpatient treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, outpatient services, and crisis management.  She is skilled in using approaches such as Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy and Reality Therapy to help clients grow into the best version of themselves.  Her training as a Music Therapist allows for the therapeutic environment to also have potential for alternate modalities, if that suits the client.

Kate sees adult clients for individual therapy.  She has a wide range of experience helping those with substance use disorders, anxiety and mood disorders, self-injurious behaviors,  as well as psychotic and thought disorders.  She is also skilled in transitions from higher levels of care (coming home from inpatient treatment, or stepping down from PHP or IOP).

Outside of the office, Kate enjoys exercise, volunteering, and spending time with her fiancé and cat.

Kate Walters is available to provide supervision for those registered with NCBLCMHC and/or NCASPPB and seeking LCMHC, LCAS, or CDAC licences in North Carolina.  She received a Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Addictions Counseling in 2013.  Her experience and training has afforded her a well-rounded background in many levels of care, and across domains of treatment.

Kate has a special interest in treating adult clients with substance use disorders, depression, stress management, anxiety, “life-stuckness”, self-injurious behaviors, and those in crisis.  In addition to her training as a LCMHC, and LCAS, she is also a Board Certified Music Therapist.

Her approach to clinical supervision is warm and personable while filling the roles of teacher, mentor, coach, and consultant.  There is a strong emphasis on ethical decision-making, exposure to different therapeutic models through case conceptualization, and the development of professional identity. The supervision environment is supportive, encouraging, and challenging to help each associate-level counselor grow into their own unique selves as professionals.
