Attention Deficit / Hyper-Activity Disorder
(ADHD)
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by ongoing patterns of inattention, impulsivity, and/or hyperactivity. These symptoms can significantly interfere with a person’s ability to function at school, work, or in relationships.
Whether you’re a child struggling to sit still in class or an adult constantly misplacing your phone, ADHD can impact every part of daily life. The good news? With the right diagnosis and treatment, individuals with ADHD can thrive.
At Matone Counseling and Testing, we provide comprehensive ADHD assessments and evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each individual’s needs.
What Is ADHD?
ADHD is one of the most common mental health conditions in both children and adults. It presents in three main types:
- Primarily Inattentive Type – Difficulty with focus, following instructions, and organization (often seen as “daydreaming” or “being forgetful”)
- Primarily Hyperactive-Impulsive Type – Excessive movement, fidgeting, restlessness, and impulsive behavior
- Combined Type – A mix of inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms
It’s more than just being distracted or energetic—ADHD is a chronic condition that can affect executive functioning, emotional regulation, and academic or job performance.
Common Signs of ADHD
Do any of these sound familiar?
- Frequently losing keys, phones, or important items
- Struggling to complete tasks or follow through with instructions
- Fidgeting, tapping, or difficulty staying seated
- Interrupting others or blurting out answers
- Trouble managing time or staying organized
- Feeling overwhelmed by daily routines
These behaviors are not signs of laziness or lack of intelligence. They may point to undiagnosed ADHD—and getting an accurate diagnosis is the first step toward better focus and improved quality of life.
ADHD in Adults
Although often diagnosed in childhood, many adults are unaware they have ADHD until later in life. Adult ADHD can look like chronic disorganization, poor time management, impulsive decision-making, or difficulty managing responsibilities. If left untreated, it can lead to frustration, low self-esteem, and difficulties in relationships or the workplace.
