Amber Slade holds a BA in Political Science from North Carolina A&T State University and an MA in Career Counseling and Placement from North Carolina Central University. She is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) in North Carolina and has spent over nine years supporting individuals through personal, academic, and career transitions. Her professional background in higher education, combined with her clinical training, has shaped her commitment to helping people make meaning of their experiences and move forward with greater clarity, agency, and self-trust.
Amber provides trauma-informed, anti-racist, and identity-affirming counseling to adults (18+) and couples. She has extensive experience working with a diverse body of college students and adults navigating life transitions, career questions, stress, grief, anxiety, and identity exploration. Amber welcomes all clients and specializes in supporting individuals from historically underserved and marginalized communities, including those navigating the emotional impact of racism, homophobia, and other systemic barriers. Her approach is eclectic and collaborative, drawing from Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Strengths-Based Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. She also integrates career counseling and vocational exploration into her clinical work when appropriate and is open to incorporating a progressive Christian perspective at the client’s request.
Outside of her clinical work, Amber is married and a proud mom of three in a blended family. She spends much of her time attending her kids’ sporting events, traveling for family activities, and navigating the moments in between. She loves sports (Go Eagles!), music, cooking, trying new restaurants, streaming her favorite comfort shows, and exploring new perfumes. Amber brings her full, authentic self into her work and believes humor, culture, and honesty are important parts of the healing process.
