Michael Little (he/him) is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist at Matone Counseling & Testing in
South Charlotte. Michael earned his Masters of Arts in Marriage & Family Therapy from Pfeiffer
University in 2022. During his time at Pfeiffer University, Michael served as Vice President for the
Student Government. Michael also earned a Masters of Science in Psychology from University of
Phoenix in 2016. His start in the Mental Health field began in 2013 in North Carolina throughout a
variety of settings that have included Outpatient Care, Group Homes, and a Psychiatric Residential
Treatment Facility.
Michael has a unique interest in helping clients to heal and transform their lives on their terms. Each
individual has a story that is unique and of importance. Michael believes the best approach in helping
people to tell their story is through a collaborative approach in working with clients to understand and
feel the depths of their stories. Part of this storytelling process also includes self-awareness and
validating one’s own emotional experience. He believes that clients are the experts of their lives,
therefore it is important to collaborate for understanding and discovering the best next approach.
Although collaboration is critical, Michael does use various techniques from Narrative Therapy,
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Bowen Family Systems, and Emotionally Focused Therapy in order to help
clients achieve their goals in the therapeutic journey.
Michael prides himself in being an advocate for under-served and marginalized groups. Michael works
with couples and individuals that range from adolescence (13+) to adulthood. Michael always strive to
provide a safe space without the fear of judgment for the opportunity to take a deep dive into trauma,
depression, anxiety, or just the complexity of life issues/transitions. Michael has experience in working
with marital issues, LGBTQ+ issues, life transitions, anxiety, stress management, oppositional or defiant
behaviors, depression, and parent/child conflict. Michael also has a wealth of multicultural experience
from working with individuals from different ethnicities, nationalities, religious affiliations, ages, sexual
orientation, sexual identities, and romantic/sexual relationships. He strives to serve communities that
feel there are barriers to access quality mental health care.
Michael is a native of Brooklyn, New York with a long family history from North Carolina. Michael has
spent quite some time being raised in North Carolina and emphasizes being diverse in northern
mentality with a southern hospitality personality. Outside of work, Michael enjoys traveling, shopping,
eating, and doing anything adventurous that requires an adrenaline rush.
