Shalini Srinivasan, M.S. (pronounced: shaa-lee-nee, pronouns: she/her) is a doctoral candidate in Marriage and Family Therapy at Virginia Tech. She holds a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from India and has six years of experience working as a therapist.
Shalini works with individuals (ages 14 and up), couples, and families with adult children. She believes in the power of being seen and heard, and in nurturing connections in all relationships. She emphasizes the uniqueness and complexity of our individual journeys and commits to offering a space where people are welcomed and accepted exactly as they are. She incorporates emotionally focused therapy and humanistic approaches, always striving to remain attuned to your experiences.
Clinically, Shalini has experience working with clients navigating the complexities of connection and conflict, trauma, parenting stress, discernment, and broader emotional or life transitions. She helps clients process repair and reconciliation after a rupture or loneliness within their relationships. She also supports clients to process their neurodivergence, anxiety, depression, family of origin experiences, and launching into adulthood from a multicultural and neuro-affirming therapy framework.
She is completing her dissertation on how South Asian women and their partners cope with cultural stress as a dyad (couple system). Outside of work, she loves spending time with her dog, catching up with friends, crocheting, or watching a comfort TV show.
“Whether you are struggling to find the “right words” or feeling like you are fighting the same battle over and over, we will work to shift the dynamic from “you vs. me” to “us vs. the problem.” After all, relationships are the ultimate agent for change. I believe that as human beings, we all need connection to survive and cope with stressors.” – Shalini
